Informations about the region Emilia romagna
Emilia-Romagna is an administrative region of Northern Italy comprising the two historic regions of Emilia and Romagna. It forms a rough triangle, bounded on the East by the Adriatic Sea, on the North by the Po river and on the South by the Appennine range; these two linear features, with the Via Aemilia, and the A1 highway and the railway that run close and parallel to it, give an unusually regular structure to the whole region except for the easternmost part. Emilia-Romagna is divided into the provinces of Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì-Cesena, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia, and Rimini. Agriculture is the most important economic activity. The principal city is Bologna, an historic, cultural and entertainment center of national importance. Other important cities include Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Rimini, Ferrara, Forlì, Cesena, Ravenna and Maranello.
The importance of Bologna in Italy and in Europe, considered from the points of view of culture, industry, trade, social, political, economy, etc., is much greater than suggested by its demographic data: about 400,000 inhabitants in the city, about 1 million in the metropolitan area, including over 100,000 students of the ancient and renowned University of Bologna, founded in the 11th century. The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, is the oldest existing university in Europe, and was an important centre of European intellectual life during the Middle Ages, attracting scholars from throughout Christendom. Bologna is renowned for its culinary tradition and it is regarded by some as the food capital of Italy. It has given its name to Bolognese sauce, a meat based pasta sauce called in Italy ragù alla bolognese but in the City itself just ragù alone as in Tagliatelle al ragù.
Ferrara is another important city. It is situated 50 km north-northeast of Bologna, on the Po di Volano, a branch channel of the main stream of the Po river, located 5 km north. The town has broad streets and numerous palaces dating from the 14th century, when it hosted the court of the house of Este. The town is still surrounded by more than 9 kilometres of ancient walls, mainly built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Modena is a city and a province on the south side of the Po valley. An ancient town, it is the seat of an archbishop, but is now mostly known as "the capital of engines", since the factories of most famous Italian car makers like De Tomaso, Ferrari, Pagani and Maserati are located there.
Modena is well known in culinary circles for its production of balsamic vinegar. It also is the birthplace of the Panini collectable stickers. Other famous Modenesi are the operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti, born in Modena itself; the Catholic Priest and Senior Exorcist of Vatican Fr. Gabriele Amorth. Modena has a strong sporting culture, linked mainly to motor racing, volleyball and football. The town's football club, Modena F.C., plays in Serie B, the Italian second division. Volleyball plays an important role in Modena's sport history, Panini Modena club having won 11 National championships, 4 Champion's League and a handful more trophies. The region is beautiful also along the Adriatic coastline. hotels and b&b Emilia Romagna: best choice
